‘Time seems to be over’ – Newcastle United opportunity to resuscitate deadline day transfer
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessEarlier this week, SportWitness were informed Newcastle United remain interested in Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi.
There was belief the midfielder could seek a departure from the Nerazzurri in January.
Gazzetta dello Sport – relayed by NapoliMagazine, now report more.
The newspaper states Frattesi’s ‘time seems to be over’ at the San Siro. He has fallen down the pecking order at Inter and he still has a market for himself.
Juventus and AS Roma are mentioned as potential suitors but the report also covers interest from Newcastle United.
The Magpies ‘remain in the background’ of the situation, having come ‘very close’ to signing the Italian on deadline day.
Now, Newcastle United should be able to land the player for a lower fee. This is largely because the Azzurri man has played only 198 minutes in Serie A and his value has reduced. Napoli are also keeping an eye on the situation, as almost their entire midfield is out due to injury.
An approach from Eddie Howe’s side is likely to be welcomed in January, with Juve and Roma having also made initial contact.
Frattesi’s situation is likely to pick up more attention in the next few weeks. He would ideally want to play at the World Cup for Italy in 2026 and it seems like only an exit can hand him enough minutes later this season.
