Wolves and West Ham transfer battle – Goalscoring midfielder wanted

by · Sport Witness

West Ham United and Wolves are chasing Tromsø IL’s Jens Hjertø-Dahl for the summer.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Norwegian club’s youth system and after climbing through their ranks, he made his first team debut in 2023.

Since then, he played 90 matches in all competitions, managing 16 goals and nine assists.

Two months ago, Sport Witness relayed news of Rangers’ interest in the midfielder. On March 30th, we covered claims from Italy backing up Danny Röhl’s side showing interest in him.

The source also reported Celtic are in the picture while Beşiktaş are still chasing him after the January disappointment.

The midfielder has enjoyed good start to this year for Tromsø IL. His stats are as follows:

  • Appearances: 3
  • Starts: 3
  • Goals: 4

West Ham and Wolves show interest

The Premier League duo have joined Rangers, Celtic and Beşiktaş in the chase for Jens Hjertø-Dahl.

TV2 in Norway report the latest on West Ham United and Wolves, without mentioning the two Scottish clubs.

Towards the end of January, the Tromsø IL star was close to joining the Turkish club for NOK 100m [€8.9m].

The move didn’t go through because he wasn’t keen on joining them and his decision has paid off. That’s because the Norway U21 international is now attracting interest from Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, Wolves, Benfica, Sporting and Hamburg SV.

This would probably be down to his ‘devastating start’ to the Norwegian season, scoring four goals from three matches.

Former IK Start defender Jesper Mathisen is now an expert for TV2 and he’s happy that the midfielder didn’t move to Turkey.

Mathisen insists his good start would have increased his price to NOK 150m [€13.4m], which should be reasonable for both West Ham and Wolves.

“With all due respect to Turkey; of course, Jens Hjertø-Dahl is not going there. He is going to a far better league than that,” he said.

“If he was worth around 100m this winter, I guess his first matches so far this year have meant that Tromsø can demand at least 150m for him now.”

“If the biggest and best clubs didn’t catch Jens Hjertø-Dahl’s eye last year, they should have done so now. His start for Tromsø was something no one could have even dreamed of, and it’s being noticed.”

PL stay could be key

West Ham United are 18th in the table, a point behind 17th placed Tottenham Hotspur, and 12 points behind bottom placed Wolves.

Wolves are likely to be relegated while the Hammers are in the fight to avoid relegation.

West Ham may need to stay in the Premier League to stance a chance to secure Jens Hjertø-Dahl’s services in the summer.
