Red Bull chief asked what happens if Liverpool call for Jurgen Klopp
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessRed Bull Sports CEO Oliver Mintzlaff admits they have deal with it if Liverpool or someone else were to call Jurgen Klopp.
Mintzlaff has been speaking at length to Welt on numerous topics related to football clubs under Red Bull Sports.
They appointed Klopp as their global sporting director in January, months after he left Liverpool.
Arne Slot replaced the German at Anfield and guided the Reds to title success last season.
The Merseyside club invested big in the summer and won their first five league matches of this season. Since then, they had mixed performances, winning five of their last 13 league matches.
Slot’s position at Liverpool was said to be in danger, while the German media suggested Klopp’s return. BILD journalist Marcel Reif indicated the former Reds boss may be ready to take charge once again at Anfield.
Last month, Dietmar Hamann stated he believes Liverpool will have held talks with Klopp over possibly replacing Slot. However, this was dismissed by SportBild on December 5th.
The Premier League side are currently unbeaten for over a month and that should cool off reports of Slot’s possible dismissal. That didn’t stop Welt from asking Mintzlaff what will happen if Liverpool, Real Madrid or Germany were to call for Klopp.
He, likely purposely, tried to swerve the clubs mentioned and focused instead on Germany.
“If the German Football Association [DFB] approaches Jurgen, I would ask Neuendorf [DFB President] why he no longer wants such an outstanding national coach,” he said.
“The national team must be incredibly happy with Julian Nagelsmann every single day. I’m certain that he, together with Rudi Völler [DFB sporting director], will create the conditions for a successful World Cup. Anything else is irrelevant.”
“Jurgen Klopp feels completely at home with us and has already learned an enormous amount here. There is no release clause in his contract, and he has clearly committed to us. He has no intention of looking for anything else. If something were to come along, we would have to deal with it. But there are absolutely no indications of that.”
