Aston Villa initiate contact to sign Barcelona player – Looking big again

by · Sport Witness

Aston Villa had a difficult summer with Emiliano Martinez, with the goalkeeper not getting the transfer he appeared to want. At the end of last season, in what would have been his final Villa Park match, he waved an emotional goodbye.

That was even before transfer claims seriously got going. Manchester United were linked throughout the summer in Argentina, in claims which appeared to be coming from the player’s camp.

Many in England dismissed the idea, but it later it turned out the links had been correct. Manchester United, however, didn’t want to pay what Aston Villa were asking.

Martinez has had to work his way back into Villa hearts. This week he spoke about how special the club has been for his career, including Argentina.

Despite that, parting ways in the summer wouldn’t be a surprise. Therefore, the Catalan media are pushing Aston Villa for Marc Andre ter Stegen.

Barcelona tried to force the goalkeeper out in the summer. He resisted the pressure and decided to have an operation he’d been avoiding for a while.

Now he’s fully fit and ready to go.

Aston Villa already in contact

Aston Villa interest in Marc Andre ter Stegen is pushed by Mundo Deportivo

Aston Villa are said to have been in contact with Barcelona. Mundo Deportivo report they’ve asked for information about a potential transfer, and where the player stands with his fitness.

The 33-year-old has a Barcelona contract lasting until 2028. He’s been linked with multiple clubs recently, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Whether Ter Stegen moves now or in the summer, there’s likely the chance for a loan with a purchase option.
