Botafogo in mix for Nottingham Forest player – Marinakis and Textor special
by Pedro Reinert · Sport WitnessNottingham Forest are drawing increased attention from Brazil over Jair Cunha, with Botafogo joining Flamengo in monitoring the defender, according to O Globo.
Botafogo’s interest is not new. The club that sold Jair Cunha to Forest in July had already contacted his representatives earlier in the season. Those talks took place while manager Davide Ancelotti was still in charge. However, discussions did not advance at that stage.
People close to the player pointed to instability around John Textor’s ownership as a key factor. That scenario reduced the chances of a return. This happened despite the strong bond Jair built during his short spell at the club.
The landscape may now be changing. With recently appointed manager Martín Anselmi, Botafogo are expected to reopen talks. The club could also formalise a loan proposal.
Also, the relationship between John Textor and Evangelos Marinakis, owners of Botafogo and Nottingham Forest, is seen as a factor that could ease negotiations.
Flamengo was the first Brazilian side to be linked, but they have not submitted an official bid yet. Any move would likely involve a loan with an option to buy. Forest must now decide the best path for Jair Cunha as interest from Brazil continues.
