Bournemouth summer signing had expected more – Not giving up yet

Juanlu Sánchez would have predicted a very different few months when he joined Bournemouth from Sevilla in the summer.

But often harsh reality overcomes transfer dreams and that’s been the case so far, as El Desmarque report today.

They say that Juanlu Sánchez’s first few weeks in England have been anything but easy. The former Sevilla man, who left the club ‘eager to grow and take the next step’ has not gotten off to a good start at Bournemouth.

What’s happened so far

He arrived at the club with an injury and has barely seen any consistent playing time so far. Four Premier League games in, he’s not managed any minutes.

He had hoped to prove his game was ready for the next level in England, but instead he has managed just ten minutes in the Carabao Cup.

The situation is raising eyebrows in Spain, where his absence from the Europa League squad has also caused concern. They were, perhaps, waiting to see him in the clash with Real Sociedad this week. Bournemouth won the game 2-1 without him.

UEFA restrictions

Bournemouth insisted that his absence was due to UEFA restrictions. These rules required them to include four club-trained players in their 25-man squad, as well as eight players trained locally within the country. Therefore, Juanlu Sánchez missed out.

For now, the defender ‘shows no signs of worry’. He remains fully committed to the transfer despite expecting a more prominent role at this point. The investment in him had created that sense as well.

But he understands that he needs to earn his place in the team, especially given they qualified for the Europa League last season when he wasn’t there.

Now the focus is, presumably, on convincing Marco Rose that he’s worth a role moving forwards. Whether he can do that, remains to be seen. Spain is watching either way.
