Approach to sign Liverpool defender in January – Would be late-month deal
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessEarlier this week, Calciomercato reported Liverpool manager Arne Slot is holding up Joe Gomez’s January exit.
The defender is attracting interest from AC Milan, having come close to joining the Rossoneri in the summer.
Talk about the versatile centre-back is now growing again in Italy. TuttoSport report he could depart Liverpool in the winter market but the move would only go through late in January.
There’s belief Slot is still against the 28-year-old exit but Milan are in no hurry and are willing to wait.
They have ‘knocked on’ Liverpool’s door again and feel that if the Reds sign a defender, Gomez will depart. At that point, Slot will also sanction the Englishman’s transfer, even if he has been used regularly since last month.
Max Allegri’s side have been offered a host of defenders already. But the Liverpool man remains their favourite option, largely because he was also a target in the summer. Juventus’ Federico Gatti is emerging as a target too but this hasn’t stopped Gomez from being an option.
Milan sporting director Igli Tare is lying in wait, hoping that an opportunity comes up.
Calciomercato previously suggested that the Reds’ player would be interested in a Milan move. This can play a key role in a transfer.
