‘We’ll make every game difficult’ – Ipswich Town signing raves about the squad

Emersonn has needed very little time to make himself an important player for Ipswich Town. Four Premier League games have brought four starts and two goals for the Brazilian.

That’s a pretty impressive first month in English football, especially for a 22-year-old who only left Brazil at the start of 2025.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet Itatiaia, Emersonn has now discussed his start at Ipswich and the reception he’s received from supporters. The striker says every goal brings him closer to something he has wanted since childhood.

“I’m happy to help Ipswich once again,” he said. “Every goal I score here is the fulfilment of a childhood dream, which is to be among the best.”

“The last game was very difficult. Winning the way we did, away from home, against a good opponent like Crystal Palace and at the end of the match gives us a lot of encouragement.”

Ipswich already have six points from their opening four matches. And Emersonn believes those results are a product of what he’s seen from the squad since arriving.

“We know that everything is more difficult for a team coming up from the second division, especially in the most competitive league in the world,” he explained.

“But the personality and commitment of our squad are fantastic. The results we’ve achieved in these opening rounds aren’t a coincidence. We’ll make every game very difficult for our opponents.”

There’s certainly plenty of confidence there, and Emersonn’s own start gives him good reason for it. When Emersonn spoke to Globo Esporte in August, he admitted even he hadn’t expected to reach the Premier League this soon.

Ipswich support means something after difficult Brazil experience

The relationship Emersonn is building with Ipswich supporters is also worth paying attention to. He says their backing was noticeable from the moment he arrived.

“I was welcomed really well here from the first day by everyone at the club and the supporters,” he said.

“I feel a special affection coming from the fans and that gives me a lot of confidence to keep doing my job. On social media, they’re always commenting with a Brazilian flag referring to me. I hope I can repay them properly.”

The Brazilian is now enjoying all of it, but his target for the season remains pretty straightforward.

“The Premier League is only just beginning, but we have a very clear objective, which is to stay in the first division,” Emersonn said.

“We have to keep working really hard every day so we can face the difficulties of the championship.”

For someone who admitted only last month that reaching English football had happened sooner than expected, he’s wasting very little time once he’s got here.
