“Wasn’t in right frame of mind” – Indication player affected by Nottingham Forest transfer failure

Fiorentina’s Dodo was being pursued by Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window, and the player was keen.

Oliver Glasner’s side made an offer for the right-back late in the window. This was rejected by Fiorentina, even though the Italian club were prepared to sell him.

The Brazilian’s current deal runs out in 2027 and La Viola were against the idea of losing him for free. Evangelos Marinakis also tried to sign him at Olympiacos but faced the same rejection.

Player not in right headspace

Dodo started Fiorentina’s first game of the season against AS Roma. But he had a poor outing, as the Giallorossi ran out 4-0 winners. After that, he has been on the periphery of the project.

Journalist Niccolo Ceccarini spoke to RTV38 about the Brazilian’s situation, while addressing other transfer-related questions about Fiorentina.

The Italian revealed La Viola’s stance about the right-back, as they have a decision to make about him.

Indicating that Dodo could’ve been keen on Nottingham Forest, he said: “Fiorentina tells us that the player didn’t train very well over the summer and wasn’t in the right frame of mind. But then he stayed, and during the break they’ll talk about a bridging contract extension, which doesn’t mean keeping him but would mean selling him better.”

Ceccarini also clarified that Fiorentina are yet to decide whether to renew his deal or not.

He said – via LabaroViola: “If he were completely out of the project, they wouldn’t even put him on the bench. I think there’s a middle ground. I don’t think he’s a player who can’t play, there’ll be more desire from the club to make him available to the manager, but it’s up to the club.”

Our take: Right decision made

After a point, it was clear Fiorentina were simply looking for buyers in the market for the 27-year-old. It could’ve been a market opportunity for Nottingham Forest but they have a better player in Daniel Munoz.

He is Premier League proven and a much more reliable player in both boxes. Dodo’s final ball isn’t always great and he has never been a good defender either.

The Colombian knows Oliver Glasner well and his signing is a sign that the manager is being backed in the market.
