Tottenham doctor approval for loan player to return – Whether he’ll start match is unclear
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessTottenham Hotspur are keeping a close watch on Luka Vušković’s situation at Hamburg SV.
The Croatia international has been on loan the Bundesliga side since last summer and done remarkably well.
However, he’s made only one appearance since the last international break, against FC Augsburg on April 4th. The Tottenham man suffered an injury in training and is yet to return to the pitch.
The timeline of the media coverage of his injury is as follows:
- On April 15th, Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin confirmed ‘intensive treatment’ for the defender.
- Five days later, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany of a severe damage to his knee.
- Last Wednesday, Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa said there’s optimism he’ll play again this season.
- On Monday, Vušković underwent more tests to find out the latest situation on his injury.
- Two days later, we relayed news that Spurs doctors need to give the green light for his return to training.
- On Thursday, the Croatian media reported he should join training from yesterday as he ‘just finished his recovery’.
Tottenham man’s return boost
Hamburger Abendblatt back up the Croatian claim of Luka Vušković returning to training.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have the final say on when he can train and return to the pitch.
The north London club’s doctors have given the Croatian permission to train again with Hamburg SV. On Thursday, the Tottenham Hotspur owned player completed full training with rest of his teammates.
Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin confirmed Spurs medical staff are in constant contact with their German counterparts and made a decision to let him return to training.
When asked about it, he said: “The fact that he’s back in training suggests everyone’s on the same page.”
The German club lost all three matches in the young defender’s absence, conceding nine goals. Therefore, his return is a massive boost.
However, it’s unclear whether Tottenham gave the green light for the Croatian to play a match.
“Luka is pain-free, but he was out for quite a while. We don’t want to make any risky decisions, but rather find a smart solution,” Polzin explained.
Luka Vušković is important in both defence and attack. His return is crucial for HSV’s survival in the Bundesliga.
