Key meeting on Manchester United – Agent clarity as negotiations ahead to seal deal
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessManchester United‘s Marcus Rashford has been on loan at Barcelona since last summer and his future needs sorting.
The La Liga winners have secured a €30m purchase option with the Red Devils. Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that this clause expired on March 31st.
However, Mundo Deportivo and others were quick to deny this and state the clause to buy the Manchester United man is valid until June.
The forward has scored 11 goals and contributed 13 assists from 41 matches so far for Barcelona.
His La Liga stats are as follows:
- Appearances: 25
- Starts: 15
- Total minutes: 1,416
- Minutes per game: 57
- Goals: 5
- Assists: 6
- Big chances created: 6
- Big chances missed: 9
Last weekend, the 28-year-old assisted in the Catalan club’s 2-1 league win over Atlético Madrid, and it was his first goal involvement since January.
Barca decision on Manchester United man pending
Thursday’s edition of Sport has a report on what will happen to Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona. Their title states: ‘Key Meeting to Resolve Rashford’s Future’.
The Blaugrana have to make a decision on the England international and João Cancelo’s future after this season.
There will be an attempt to retain the fullback while ‘everything is still up in the air’ with the Manchester United owned player. Hansi Flick is satisfied with the attacker but wants him to contribute more defensively.
Flcik’s side are yet to make the final decision. Barcelona sporting director Deco will have a meeting with Rashford’s agent Arturo Canales to discuss his future.
During this ‘key meeting’, Deco will discuss the ‘pros and cons’ and whether it’s feasible for all parties to make his stay permanent.
There’s ‘nothing to discuss’ with Manchester United as ‘everything is in place’, meaning the buying option is in place.
His stay after this season depends on his performances in the coming weeks and Barca’s financial situation. Canales’ meeting with Deco should provide more clarity or at least give a hint of Barca’s plans for Marcus Rashford.
What next for Rashford
Should Hansi Flick’s side decide not to retain him, then Manchester United have to make a decision on his future.
Marcus Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford is until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €40m.
