West Ham enter talks with Portuguese side – Brazilian winger emerges as January priority

by · Sport Witness

Sporting have opened talks with West Ham over a possible move for Luis Guilherme. The Premier League club now faces concrete interest in the Brazilian winger ahead of January. The information comes from Maisfutebol, through journalist Bruno Andrade.

According to the report, Sporting see Luis Guilherme as a priority target for the winter window. The Portuguese club value his versatility, as he can operate on either wing and also play behind the striker.

That profile has become even more relevant for head coach Rui Borges, who recently lost Geovany Quenda to injury and Geny Catamo to AFCON duty.

Luis Guilherme joined West Ham from Palmeiras for €23m in the 2024-25 season. However, his time in England has brought limited opportunities so far.

At 19, he remains highly regarded, but game time has been scarce, and his development plan now points towards a move where minutes are more realistic. Earlier reports from Brazil already suggested he wants out. Now this could be the chance.

Sporting have tracked the winger for several months. Maisfutebol also notes that FC Porto showed interest during the previous window, underlining the competition around the player.

Luis Guilherme is under contract with West Ham until June 2029, which gives the English club leverage in negotiations.

Still, with talks now underway, the next steps will depend on whether Sporting can align sporting needs with West Ham’s expectations in the coming weeks.
