“I know for a fact” – Insistence Arsenal have made offer, player ready for Europe
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessArsenal are firmly in the race for Mexican star Gilberto Mora and have even proposed a deal structure that would see him head out on loan.
Mora is currently one of the rising stars of Mexican football after scoring 15 goals in 62 games for Club Tijuana.
He has also made his debut for the Mexican national team, scoring in the 1-0 win over Honduras in the Gold Cup semi-finals last year. He then featured for them four times at the World Cup this summer.
The 18-year-old is considered a star of the future. And, as is often the case, the Premier League is already sniffing around. Arsenal are one of the sides to have been interested for a while.
Arsenal’s interest
Sport Witness first reported their interest back in October last year. They were positioning themselves for the forward alongside Manchester City.
The Gunners have regularly linked the Gunners since, particularly throughout this year. For instance, a report in June this year made it clear that Arsenal were keeping a close eye on his development.
The latest of those reports, just this month, indicated that Arsenal were now trying to get ahead of the competition. That stated they had already made an offer before the January transfer window. They are, seemingly, determined to beat their Premier League rivals to a move.
Former Mexico defender Claudio Suárez now backs up that idea firmly. He insists that Arsenal have already made overtures.
“I know for a fact that he’s had offers,” he told Unanimo.
“Arsenal showed interest, and so did Bayern Munich. Arsenal’s plan was to sign him and then loan him out, since he might not have been a starter for them right away. I happen to know that both Arsenal and Bayern presented him with a great project.”
Europe required
He is firmly convinced that the youngster needs to head to Europe sooner rather than later. And a loan move as part of that could work in his favour.
“The truth is that Gil Mora’s situation is unique—the kind that comes along once in a very long while,” he added.
“He’s extraordinary, both because of his age and the entire development path he’s been on since Juan Carlos Osorio gave him his debut. If it were up to me, I’d let him go.
“He needs to head to Europe to start gaining that kind of experience. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if things didn’t go well—though I personally believe he’ll do very well. It’s just a matter of finding the right club—somewhere he can adapt quickly and where he’ll be well supported.
“Just being over there—being in Europe—helps you grow. It’s not easy being on your own, even if your family is with you. The training methodologies are different from what’s used in Mexico. I think things are a bit more relaxed in Mexico. So this move could really help Gil Mora right from the start.”
