Crystal Palace need something special to sign German – Eagles may have missed chance
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessCrystal Palace came calling for Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck last summer and remain keen. A deal this year is likely to be much more complex.
The German made a slow start to the current season, despite having proven himself enough under Simone Inzaghi in the previous campaign.
A lack of action under Cristian Chivu led to Crystal Palace making an approach to sign the defender. Sport Witness covered this extensively, as the Nerazzurri rejected two offers.
Besides, they had moved on Benjamin Pavard and were not willing to sell another right sided defender late in the transfer window.
Things have now changed for the Germany international, as Gazzetta dello Sport provide insight into his situation.
Crystal Palace transfer very difficult now
The Italian newspaper make it clear that a move to Crystal Palace was very close for Yann Bisseck last summer. Oliver Glasner’s side put forward €30m but a final agreement was never reached between the two clubs.
Now, Chivu sees the defender as an important part of his backline. This is especially because of the 25-year-old’s versatility across the backline and the Romanian is impressed by Bisseck’s courage and recovery while defending.
That is why Inter do not see Bisseck as a sellable entity anymore. That was true to an extent last season but the player has convinced his club enough to have a long-term future.
Even if Crystal Palace come forward for him this summer, they will struggle to get the defender.
Our take: Bisseck may have outgrown Crystal Palace
Whilst not always consistent, Bisseck is one of Inter’s most important players. Last season, he came up with massive performances in the Champions League, impressing particularly against Barcelona.
This season, he has also done quite well as a ball-carrier, catching the opposition off-guard with his pace on the ball.
He is a proven-Champions League player who has already won silverware at the highest level. Crystal Palace don’t really offer that and if Bisseck does leave Inter, he’d be looking to go higher or sideways.
