Arsenal appointment will have direct line to Mikel Arteta – Berta brings in a confidante

by · Sport Witness

Arsenal’s newest backroom appointment Javier Alonso will have a direct line to manager Mikel Arteta moving forwards.

IDEAL report on the former Granada technical secretary today after he finalised his move to Arsenal this week.

New Arsenal appointment

The newspaper explains that Javier Alonso is taking charge of the scouting team at the Premier League champions. He arrives at the Emirates after handing in his resignation at Granada last Tuesday.

His appointment has already been announced internally at Arsenal, without any public announcement. He has already taken up the new role with the Champions League semi-finalists.

The Spaniard was appointed on the recommendation of Andrea Berta, who he worked with at Atlético Madrid. The two have maintained a very close relationship despite the Asturian joining Granda in 2023. Now they are working together again.

He will work alongside Italian Maurizio Micheli in Arsenal’s scouting department. Their remit is to scout emerging talent and bring them to the Emirates. They will have a ‘direct line’ to manager Mikel Artea in this regard.

Future Arsenal success

The plan, clearly, is to set the Gunners up for future success after winning the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final last year.

While that success has been built on signing established players, with Bruno Guimaraes the latest, it seems there’s also an eye to the future as well.

It would not be surprising, then, to see Arsenal linked with more young players this summer and in the near future. They are clearly building a network behind the scenes to ensure they are scouting top talent from around the world.

It also gives them potentially more power in their efforts for Julián Álvarez. With two former Atlético Madrid men now in place in Berta and Alonso, perhaps they can start using their connections to their advantage. That’s at least what the Gunners fanbase will be hoping.
