Oviedo, Spain – 09 25 2025: Marcus Rashford seen during LaLiga EA SPORTS game between teams of Real Oviedo and FC Barcelona

Manchester United‘s Marcus Rashford is back on Aston Villa‘s agenda ahead of the summer window.

In the summer, Manchester United let the forward join Barcelona on loan with an option to buy set at €30m.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. The Premier League wanted to retain the 28-year-old, but he pushed for a move to the Camp Nou. Barcelona sporting director Deco had confirmed this in February.

At that time, he said: “…he did a very good job [at Aston Villa]. In fact, Aston Villa, if they could have, would have kept him. I know this because I’ve spoken to people there. But he only wanted to come to Barca, and that’s a very positive thing.”

The Manchester United owned player has 13 goals and 13 assists from 45 matches for Barcelona.

His La Liga stats are as follows:

  • Appearances: 28
  • Starts: 15
  • Total minutes: 1,489
  • Minutes per game: 53

He wants to make his Camp Nou stay permanent, but Barca seem to have other plans.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Rashford’s permanent move to the Camp Nou is at risk. He’d have to take a massive cut to fit within their salary structure to extend his stay.

Aston Villa keeping close watch

There’s been several claims of Barcelona either wanting to sign him for a lower fee or on a new loan deal. Manchester United, for their part, are refusing to accept a fee below €30m.

As things stand, it’s unclear whether the England international will continue at Barcelona after this season.

Mundo Deportivo have a report on the Villans and make it clear it’s their own information.

Aston Villa are closely monitoring Marcus Rashford’s situation at Barcelona because of Unai Emery.

The newspaper state the manager wants to bring the Manchester United man back to Villa Park in the next window.

Aston Villa are considering buying the attacker and are waiting to find out the Red Devils’ position. For now, his desire is to continue at Barcelona, and this gives them the upper hand.

Aston Villa interest to benefit Manchester United

Barcelona seem to be trying to retain Marcus Rashford using a different formula and for a lower price. The Spanish media have regularly stated the Old Trafford club won’t negotiate below €30m.

In short, the Spanish giants can’t keep him if they refuse to pay €30m to Manchester United and that’s likely to be the case.

Aston Villa’s interest to sign the player permanently allows the Red Devils to sell him and probably collect the desired fee.
