“It will prove to be a wonderful idea” – Belief Nottingham Forest player will reach new levels in six months
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessAC Milan landed Omari Hutchinson from Nottingham Forest late in the summer transfer window. They have been urged to be patient with the Englishman.
The attacker came in as a replacement for Rafael Leao, who left for Galatasaray. Milan inserted an option to buy worth €40m in the loan deal, even if the player hasn’t exactly been consistent in the Premier League.
After a slow start to life in Italy though, Hutchinson is starting to find his feet. He impressed in the Europa League game against Salzburg last week, which suggests Ruben Amorim is starting to trust him.
He hasn’t exactly gone all guns blazing though and Milan have been told to be calm.
Player needs six months
Sky Italia journalist and commentator Massimo Marianella spoke to MilanNews about a host of issues surrounding the Rossoneri. The Nottingham Forest player was also a focus of attention and he gave his insights about his start to life in Milan.
Marianella clarified that Hutchinson isn’t a sexy name but he will do well soon.
He said: “He’s not a very sexy name on the transfer market (smiles, ed.). He’s not the first player you think of when you think of a Premier League player. But it’s a good name, it’s a name that comes from the expertise of whoever chose him.”
“Because he’s a player who can break a game, he has pace, he has the ability to get to the byline, move inside, shoot, get into the box, and spot his teammates. He’s a player who, with Premier League pace, can do many things.”
Marianella also believes that the winger just needs some time to show his skillset and six months will be enough.
“I’m also happy if he does well because it confirms what I say, and it’s also good for AC Milan. He’s a player with a lot of potential: you have to give him space to show it. Wenger always said that a player in a foreign league should always be given six months to adapt.”
“For an English player, the Italian league has always been a more difficult step historically. Now perhaps a little less so. But I think that if you give him the opportunity, space, and time, it will prove to be a wonderful idea.”
Our take: Play needs patience
Amorim seems to have a clear plan for Hutchinson. That is why he hasn’t used him too regularly in the Serie A. He probably sees the Europa League as the chance to help the 22-year-old find his feet in a new system, where has been used as a wing-back – curiously enough.
All of that will take time. And Amorim has brought some stability to the club’s playing style, which is helping a lot of players.
Nottingham Forest would hope things keep going in the right direction too. If they earn €40m from his sale, it will go down as a huge capital gain, even if Milan may not find it easy to pay it.
