“Risk worth taking” – Insistence club have ‘no choice’ but to sign Chelsea player in January

Lyon are looking at Chelsea’s Axel Disasi to improve their defence in the winter market.

Earlier this month, L’Equipe reported the Ligue 1 side have been speaking to the centre-back regarding a loan move.

Lyon desperately need a new centre-back in January as Clinton Mata and Moussa Niakhaté will be at AFCON.

French journalist Pierre Ménès has backed up Lyon’s interest in the Chelsea player on his YouTube channel. Le10 Sport have relayed his comments.

The French club had financial difficulties in the summer and are likely to face the same issue again in the next window. Therefore, they have to be creative in finding solutions to improve their squad.

Lyon have identified the 27-year-old and Real Madrid’s Endrick as targets for defence and attack respectively.

Enzo Maresca has left the Frenchman out of his plans at Chelsea this season. Therefore, he’s had to settle for minutes with the U21s. Endrick has also failed to get regular minutes at Real Madrid.

If Lyon were to sign the duo on loan, Ménès claims it’s not a given that these two deals will work out. However, he indicates the French club don’t have a lot of options currently.

“Are there concerns that Endrick and Axel Disasi might be out of form? Yes. Of course. Every time you sign a player, especially in the winter transfer window, there’s no guarantee they’ll be immediately productive. But Lyon have no choice,” he said.

“Lyon can’t afford to sign a player who’s playing regularly… Anyway, either you get loan players who don’t play, or you do nothing. Yes, there is a risk, but a risk worth taking.”
