‘Significant discussions’ on Manchester United transfer – €40m move on horizon
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessSince Joshua Zirkzee joined Manchester United, things have constantly looked uncertain for him. The Dutchman can finally seal his exit in the summer, with discussions already underway.
In December and January, Sport Witness closely covered AS Roma’s interest in the striker.
They were keen on an initial loan with an option to buy deal. Manchester United, on the other hand, were only seeking a permanent transfer or an obligation to buy in the loan.
Roma could never meet these demands, even if Zirkzee had already agreed personal terms over a switch.
Since that failed transfer, things haven’t changed for the forward. Now, Napoli are attempting to land him.
Discussions underway
NapoliMagazine’s Emanuele Cammaroto has reported about the 24-year-old, who is really liked by Napoli manager Antonio Conte.
Joshua Zirkzee is the Italian’s priority for the summer, alongside Moise Kean, and a deal is already being pursued.
It is believed that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has had ‘significant discussions’ with Zirkzee’s entourage over a summer transfer. As of now, Manchester United demand a fee of €40m to let the striker depart.
Napoli, meanwhile, are rather optimistic about the possibility of getting a discount. That is making them closely study the deal before they make a formal approach. There is also optimism that more developments can take place on this front soon.
Napoli could be ideal for Zirkzee
Antonio could have just one proven striker in their side next season. Romelu Lukaku is likely to depart and Lorenzo Lucca also has no future in Naples. That is why Joshua Zirkzee can become an important signing, with the player likely to get regular playing time at Napoli.
That hasn’t happened at Manchester United, where he has not made a single start in 2026. He also picked up an injury issue earlier in the year which derailed his progress. Even in the absence of Benjamin Sesko, Michael Carrick has used Bryan Mbeumo as a striker.
That says everything about Zirkzee, who should now be desperate to depart Old Trafford.
