“Not in squad” – Manager confirms agreement with Manchester City for player’s return to Etihad
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessBayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand has confirmed Claudio Echeverri will return to Manchester City.
The Bundesliga side are set to face RB Leipzig in the league on Saturday. The manager was speaking to the reporters at the pre-match press conference and Welt have relayed his comments.
Hjulmand says the Manchester City man won’t be part of the squad for tomorrow’s clash.
Echeverri arrived at the Etihad from River Plate in January and struggled for minutes in the second half of last season. He joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan to feature regularly and adapt to the European conditions.
The temporary move to Germany hasn’t worked out well. The attacking midfielder failed to score and contributed one assist from 11 matches. Therefore, Bayer Leverkusen have agreed with Pep Guardiola’s side to terminate his loan stay.
Hjulmand has confirmed this news and also explained why the 19-year-old struggled.
“We have an agreement with Manchester City that he’ll return. That’s why he’s not in the squad. He’s a young and good player, but we have a lot of players in that position,” he said.
Echeverri will return to Manchester City but won’t be part of Guardiola’s plans. He’s set to join Girona on loan in the winter market. This was initially reported by Cadena Ser on Wednesday.
Earlier today, AS reported the La Liga side have an agreement in place with the player and Manchester City for the loan transfer.
