“Truly fantastic” Sunderland star keeps earning praise – National recognition surely on the way

Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs has been named as the ‘best Dutchman abroad’ after his impressive start to life with the Black Cats.

The honour has been bestowed upon him by Theo Janssen on a recent appearance on Rondo. His comments have been relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

Roefs has been a revelation for Sunderland since joining them in a €10m deal from NEC Nijmegen in the summer transfer window. He was one of the lower, somewhat less extravagant deals of a busy summer for the Black Cats.

But he has since proven to be one of the best deals of the window. The Dutch goalkeeper has quickly established himself as number one at the club with a series of impressive performances.

He’s been key to their unbelievable start to the season, keeping six clean sheets in 17 games to date. He is also one of the top performing goalkeepers in the league, ranking highly for save percentage, total saves and goals conceded while high on the likes of goals prevented.

He has, undoubtedly, bee one of the signings of the season so far. And for Janssen, the Sunderland star is also the best Dutchman playing abroad at this moment in time.

“I think he’s doing so amazing,” he said.

“Nothing but compliments for that lad. He’s truly fantastic in goalkeeping. Last season he was already doing well at NEC, but now he’s made a transfer and is playing like a beast in the Premier League.

“He’s a guy who’s also going to get his minutes with the Dutch national team.”
