Player warned off Manchester City transfer – Told to snub big money move
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessAjax star Mika Godts should be wary of a potential move to Manchester City, as he isn’t getting past Jeremy Doku in the pecking order.
That’s the advice from journalist Valentijn Driessen, via FC Update. He thinks the highly rated 20-year-old should be looking elsewhere this summer.
Growing transfer interest
Mike Godts appears destined for a big money from Ajax this summer after establishing himself as one of the rising youngsters in Europe.
The 20-year-old has 16 goals and 13 assists in 39 games for Ajax this season, including a superb solo goal in 2-0 win over NAC Breda last weekend. All in all, the youngster has 24 goals and 23 assists in 106 games for the Dutch giants since his debut.
He is very much seen as a star of tomorrow, and the Premier League is already circling. Sport Witness covered a report today that Arsenal and Chelsea had sent scouts to watch the winger in action. The Gunners are long-term admirers.
Reports in England have also linked Manchester City with a potential move. Manchester United have even been told to make a move for him this summer.
Manchester City advice
It seems, though, that Valentijn Driessen is worried about the youngster joining any big club. In particular, he thinks Manchester City would be a bad idea at this point.
“He simply proves that he has outgrown the Eredivisie,” he said on the Kick-Off podcast.
“Against clubs like Telstar and NAC, you can of course also excel as an Ajax player, but Ajax doesn’t excel at all. And he stands head and shoulders above them.
“The link between Jordi Cruijff and Pep Guardiola is obviously clearly visible. And Manchester City is certainly a club that could pay thirty, forty, or fifty million. But I don’t think he is better there than Doku.”
Indeed, the Dutch journalist believes that Godts should look at his current situation in the Belgian national team. That, he thinks, would give him an example of life at Manchester City.
“They just happen to be both Belgians. And in the national team Doku is also higher in the pecking order, whereas Godts should be happy if he is even in the squad,” he added.
