“His leg is swollen” – Manchester City injury is genuine and not NT related

by · Sport Witness

Ghana football association president Kurt Okraku says Manchester City‘s Antoine Semenyo was ready to travel so that the national team doctors can evaluate the severity of his injury.

The forward has enjoyed a good run since leaving AFC Bournemouth for Manchester City in January.

After impressing under Pep Guardiola in the second half of last season, he has continued to excel under his successor, Enzo Maresca.

The Ghana international has featured in every fixture this season, managing two goals and three assists. This includes a brace and an assist in Manchester City’s 5-3 thrilling win over Sunderland last weekend.

Injury blow for Manchester City star

Antoine Semenyo played the full 90 minutes against Sunderland.

Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz included him in the squad for the ongoing international break. However, the 26-year-old won’t be able to represent the Black Stars because of a swollen ankle.

On Wednesday, Sport Witness covered a report from Ghana explaining that the ankle injury forced him to withdraw.

Kurt Okraku confirmed that during a chat with Asempa FM and Ghana Soccernet have relayed his comments.

Manchester City player working on recovery

The Ghana football association’s president says Antoine Semenyo had a chat with Carlos Queiroz to explain his situation.

He said: “Antoine and the coach spoke. He told the coach, ‘If you need me, I will come down for the medical team to re-examine me. But the truth is that my leg is swollen, and we need to treat it’.”

Antoine Semenyo was ready to travel to join the national team camp. However, Ghana decided against it so that he can work on his recovery and return to Queiroz’s squad in November.

“As a leader, if you want to know your players, and in this particular case, we know the players and how honest they are when it comes to situations like this, you’d have to ask yourself whether you’d allow Antoine to continue with his recovery and be ready for Man City and for Ghana during the next window, or have Antoine fly down to Ghana to undergo an MRI and then ask him to go back because he can’t play. His leg is swollen,” Kurt Okraku explained.

He’ll miss the AFCON qualifiers against the Ivory Coast and Gambia and a friendly against Morocco.

It makes perfect sense for the player to regain full fitness in England. There’s no clarity on the timeline for his recovery. Enzo Maresca’s side will face Liverpool on October 11th and it’s unclear whether Semenyo will travel to Anfield.
