Player and entourage not considering Chelsea exit – Alonso decision not terminal

Barcelona are keeping a close watch on Chelsea‘s Estêvão Willian even though he has no intention of leaving the Premier League side. 

In June 2024, Chelsea agreed a deal with Palmeiras for the forward to arrive in London in 2025.

The 19-year-old finished his debut season in England with eight goals and four assists from 36 matches. A hamstring injury had limited his minutes in the second half of last season.

Xabi Alonso arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer and didn’t utilise Estêvão regularly in the league. He handed him 23 minutes from four Premier League matches, and Estêvão settled for two starts in the EFL Cup.

Alonso decision results in Chelsea exit links 

The limited role at the west London club didn’t stop Carlo Ancelotti from including him in the squad for this international break.

Last week, the Brazil international explained can only focus on what he can control when asked about the restricted role at Chelsea.

He said: “Every manager has their own way of playing, and of course we work every day and give our best every day. That’s what I do. We have a lot of extremely high-quality players at Chelsea.”

“I focus on what I can control. When I get an opportunity, I try to give my best. With every opportunity I’ve had, I think I’ve made the most of it. I try to control what I can and leave tomorrow in God’s hands. I have a lot of confidence in myself as well.”

This has led to suggestions in Brazil about the possibility of Estêvão leaving the Blues as early as January.

Barcelona monitoring Chelsea player 

After relaying his comments and these claims, Sport shares their take and makes it clear it’s their own updates.

A source close to the player told the newspaper that neither he nor his entourage are considering leaving Chelsea.

His situation at Stamford Bridge has seen Barcelona take notice. They showed interest in him in the past but decided against progressing because of the high price and Lamine Yamal.

The La Liga winners have already collected positive reports about Estêvão and continue to admire him. Their sporting director, Deco, is well aware of his current situation at Chelsea.

Barca will monitor what Xabi Alonso’s plans to do with the player upon his return from the international break.

There’s no mention of launching an attempt to sign him in January. Barca may consider a loan move if Alonso continues to not utilise him regularly in the Premier League.

The Brazilian’s agent, André Cury, previously worked for Barcelona. It’s likely that Sport gathered the latest update either from him or his agency.
