Manager pauses situation after saying he wants Manchester United job

Much like Hull City’s owner, manager Sergej Jakirović is never shy of commenting or making his feeling clear on various subjects.

He proved to be a gem throughout the summer as he commented on his various transfer plans, players and everything in between during a busy period for the Tigers.

He’s continued to employ that open door policy ever since. And for the most part, that’s been like a breathe of fresh air for the Premier League, which is often full of dull and boring media trained managers avoiding controversy.

Manchester United comments

Sometimes, though, being open can come back to bite you. And Jakirović has perhaps been feeling that over the last few weeks.

Earlier this month he admitted he fancied the Manchester United job. Sport Witness covered those comments.

“Me?! Where am I, I’m looking towards Manchester United, haha!” he said.

“Never say never, I would be at home in that case, I had a good time at Dinamo, I don’t hold anything against anyone, some people are revealed, who pretended to be good to you… But I’m looking to reach the biggest clubs here.”

Calming things down

Those comments naturally earned the Hull City manager a bit of attention. They were therefore brought up when he was interviewed in his native Croatia this week.

But when it was put to him that Hull are worried that bigger clubs – such as Manchester United – might snap him up, he played his comments down.

“I’d rather not talk about that right now. Not from my current position, where I have a club and am happy with the work we’re doing together,” Teleskop report him saying.

“When the time comes for the next step, we’ll discuss it. You know my path; I’ve never set grandiose goals but instead developed gradually as a coach.

“That remains the plan. When the time comes for something better, we’ll sit down and talk. Until then, we move forward with God’s help, giving our absolute best in every training session and match.”
