“I can hurt anyone” – Manchester City player issues warning after ‘good reset’

by · Sport Witness

Manchester City star Jérémy Doku says he’s in good spirits after putting his injury woes behind him.

Last season, the forward managed eight goals and 14 assists from 2,962 minutes from 47 matches for Manchester City. He then represented Belgium at the World Cup, where he made five appearances.

In August, the 24-year-old suffered a calf injury, forcing him to spend 46 days away from the pitch. This was his third setback since December 2025.

He returned to the pitch in the 5-3 win over Sunderland in September. Despite this, the Belgium international missed the last international break.

Manchester City man took advantage of break

The attacker took advantage of the international break to focus on improving his fitness and it has paid off. He has a goal and an assist in the last three matches for the Citizens.

Jérémy Doku graduated from Anderlecht’s youth system and made his first team debut in 2018. Hein Vanhaezebrouck handed him his debut against Sint-Truidense in November 2018 and left the club the following month.

Vanhaezebrouck is now a pundit for Play Sports and visited his compatriot in Manchester. The focus of the discussion is around the Belgian’s injury and how he felt after recovering from the setback.

“In five to six weeks, you miss a lot of matches. There is also a new staff and then you miss a lot. Sometimes it’s good to reset. When I came back, I felt great,” he said.

Confidence of his own form

Earlier this month, Jérémy Doku came off the bench and scored in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool.

On his performance against the Reds, Doku explained: “I felt in top shape on the bench against Liverpool. I know I can hurt anyone.”

The Belgian arrived at the Etihad from Stade Rennais in 2023. He played three seasons under Pep Guardiola, and Enzo Maresca replaced the Spaniard in the summer.

“He [Maresca] and Pep are asking for pretty much the same thing. Do your thing on the wing, be dangerous and create chances,” he concluded.
