Manchester United consider re-signing player at €25-30m – Aston Villa also in mix
by Kaustubh Pandey · Sport WitnessManchester United and Aston Villa attempted to bring Scott McTominay back to the Premier League in the summer. A deal could be much more realistic in 2027.
The Red Devils have seen the Scotland international thrive in the Serie A over the last two seasons. He has also won the Scudetto with the Partenopei, helping them return to the Champions League last season.
But in recent weeks, uncertainty has been growing about his long-term stay in Naples.
His current deal runs out in the summer of 2028 and there have been struggles over a renewal. Now, Manchester United and Aston Villa can have a shot at a deal once again.
Renewal looking unlikely
Tuttomercatoweb provide background information about the goalscoring midfielder’s situation. They are sure McTominay will leave Napoli in the summer of 2027, with his wage demands of €8m per season proving excessive for Aurelio de Laurentiis’ club.
Besides, he is turning 30 soon. The Partenopei believe they shouldn’t pay a huge amount for a player that age.
The outlet are confident Manchester United made enquiries about re-signing McTominay in the summer. Aston Villa did the same and so did several other teams. His situation was much more stable in Naples at that point.
Now, it is changing and McTominay’s value stands at between €25m and €30m. This will help Napoli earn a capital gain, with the Scotsman’s current book value at €7.5m.
A return to England is seen as an option, as things stand.
Wage demands won’t be a problem
Aston Villa currently have several players who earn over €8m and McTominay has done enough to earn that. The same applies for Manchester United, who won’t have problems affording that figure.
But the 29-year-old should be prioritising the project over the money. He has done very well to get his career to new heights at Napoli.
So even if the two clubs could be interested, he has to choose wisely and think about the direction his career should go in.
