Club staying quiet as Newcastle United negotiations ‘proving difficult again’
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessEintracht Frankfurt are remaining tight-lipped over a move for Newcastle United striker William Osula as negotiations are ‘proving difficult again’.
That’s according to Frankfurter Rundschau. They cover the German side’s hunt for a new striker today.
They’ve been keen on Osula since the summer transfer window. A deal was done with Newcastle at the time before their owners vetoed it on deadline day in response to Alexander Isak’s big, contentious departure.
Eintracht turned their attention to the January transfer window as a result. Several reports have made it clear that they’re working on a deal for Osula to join then. He’s keen on the move, with a report this week stating he expects to leave Newcastle in the near future.
Frankfurter Rundschau now report that negotiations are ‘proving difficult again’ according to sources within the club.
The German side are neither able nor willing to buy the player outright for a substantial fee, of at least €20m. They prefer a loan deal with subsequent purchase options. That is something it seems Newcastle are yet to open up to, though.
That’s perhaps led to difficult negotiations, and FR report that Eintracht are keeping a ‘persistent silence’ in the meantime. They want to avoid jeopardising negotiations with any public statements and thus ‘minimise financial pressure’.
There is also the potential that director of football Markus Krösche keeping a low profile, perhaps even to pursue other players without public speculation.
Either way, he’s keeping quiet about Newcastle, Osula and other targets to ensure there’s no public issues before January.
