President makes official contact for Arsenal transfer – Gunners player ‘surprise’ summer target

by · Sport Witness

Arsenal‘s Leandro Trossard has emerged as a ‘surprise’ target for Beşiktaş this summer, according to a report from Turkey.

The Belgium international finished the season with eight goals and 11 assists from 50 matches.

He played a part in Arsenal’s title winning campaign and even started in the Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward is now with his national team at the World Cup, but his Emirates future needs clarifying.

On April 29th, Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium that there’s a strong chance the 31-year-old will leave the Gunners this summer.

Last week, we relayed news that there’s expectations the Turkish club will submit a serious offer soon.

Arsenal man priority summer target

Beşiktaş are looking to strengthen their attack this summer. That’s according to beIN Sports in Turkey, who state the Black Eagles have identified two ‘surprise’ candidates from the Premier League. One of them is Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard.

Their journalist Tayfun Akkaya shares an update on the Istanbul club’s efforts to try and sign the Belgian.

Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı is leading the transfer pursuit and made official contact with Mikel Arteta’s side.

According to the journalist, Arsenal have made the former Brighton & Hove Albion man available in the market.

However, he makes no mention of what their response was after Adalı contacted the north London club. There’s also no mention whether the player is open to joining Beşiktaş.

Trossard is the main target to strengthen the left wing. For the No.9 position, Akkaya says the Süper Lig side are focusing on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Our take: Arsenal selling Trossard makes sense

Leandro Trossard has just over a year left on his contract and is now valued at €18m by Transfermarkt.

The summer window allows the English champions to cash in from his sale and avoid losing him for free in 2027.

In short, the upcoming window is the best time for them to cash in on the Belgian.
