“Not from Bournemouth” – Director gloats about player after Manchester United scouting mission

On Tuesday, Gazzetta di Modena reported Manchester United scouted Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic on Sunday. This came right after Gianluca di Marzio had spoken of Bournemouth interest in the centre-back.

Inter Milan and Juventus have also been mentioned as suitors for the Bosnian, who has been thoroughly impressive in the ongoing campaign. He has arguably been one of the best defenders in Serie A this season.

Talk around Muharemovic continues to grow. Sassuolo chairman Giovanni Carnevali spoke to TuttoSport about the 22-year-old, claiming that it will be normal if a ‘big club’ like Manchester United comes forward for him.

When asked about Sassuolo’s price tag for the player, he said: “We don’t have a price tag for Tarik right now, because a lot depends on who asks us for him. He has great potential, so it’s normal that if a big club comes along, we’ll listen to him. But then we also have to find a replacement.”

Carnevali made it clear that Bournemouth are yet to make an approach for the centre-back but Italian clubs have made enquiries.

We’ve already had some approaches. Not from Bournemouth, but from Inter, yes, but there are no official requests. Bologna also asked me about Muharemovic the other night.”

Carnevali also clarified that Sassuolo might not have to sell Muharemovic but a final decision will come down to him.

“We don’t necessarily have to sell Muharemovic. We want to develop him. I had already sold Locatelli to Arsenal, but he preferred Juventus, and we chose to accommodate him by giving up a little extra money.”

Considering how the Italian side have previously sold Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi, they are clearly a selling club. They had also agreed to sell Armand Lauriente to Sunderland before a deal fell through due to disagreements over wages.

Juventus have a 50% sell-on clause in the player’s contract. The Old Lady have interest in the player now and this may prove key.
