Loan offer with purchase clause sent to Burnley – Growing interest turns to bid

by · Sport Witness

Galatasaray have made a loan offer for Burnley midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, which will include a conditional purchase clause.

Journalist Çağatay Çelik reports negotiations are underway with Burnley for the 22-year-old to move to Türkiye this summer.

Galatasaray offer

Çelik reported yesterday that Galatasaray were planning to make a loan offer to Burnley for Lesley Ugochukwu at some point soon. The Super Lig side were intending to convince Burnley with the inclusion of a purchase clause. That would be conditioned on playing time.

They are keen to sign the French footballer, though, as he fits into the new U23 quota at the club. Çelik now reports that the offer has been made.

He explains that Galatasaray have made a loan offer to Burnley that includes a €26m purchase option. Negotiations are now ongoing to sign the midfielder with a formula that includes an option to buy ‘subject to conditions’.

Whether Burnley accept the offer remains to be seen. They paid €28.7m to sign Lesley Ugochuwu from Chelsea last summer and would, presumably, want to make that money back.

What will Burnley do?

They would also, surely, be resistant to letting the midfielder go too soon given his importance last season. He made 38 appearances for the Clarets in all competitions last season, scoring three and assisting two. He was very much one of their best players despite relegation back to the Championship.

Galatasaray’s interest has been growing over the last few months as a result. Sport Witness covered a report back in April stating that he had been added to their transfer shortlist.

That interest now appears to have reached the point where a formal bid, albeit a loan one, has been submitted to Burnley. They’re now waiting to see how the Clarets respond to it.

With the Championship side yet to hire a new manager, though, the Turkish side may be waiting for a while.
