Aston Villa make formal approach – Club accept player will leave this summer, set price
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessAston Villa can bring Pedro Vite to the Premier League this summer, after Pumas UNAM give up on retaining him.
The Ecuador international seems to have already convinced the Premier League side.
On July 1st, we relayed news of Aston Villa’s intention to submit a formal offer to sign him.
A day later, Sport Witness covered claims from Mexico that Pumas haven’t received a bid yet. However, they consider it almost impossible to retain him.
Aston Villa must make advances
Olé relays these claims and then provides their own updates on where the 24-year-old could play next season.
Mexico eliminated Ecuador from the World Cup in Round of 32, and Pedro Vite was one of the latter’s standout players in the tournament. This has already attracted interest from several clubs, including Unai Emery’s side.
Pumas UNAM have received approaches, but no official offers yet. Despite this, they have already accepted it will be difficult to hold on to the midfielder.
Therefore, the Mexican club have set a $10m [€8.74m] price, which should be affordable for the Villans.
When discussing his suitors, the Europa League winners get a mention. The newspaper states Pumas have received a formal approach from Aston Villa, who haven’t made further advances so far.
Aston Villa likely to face competition
The Premier League side aren’t alone as Manchester United and others are also in the mix.
Michael Carrick’s side have made an informal approach. The City Football Group, who own Manchester City and other clubs, are monitoring him and awaiting developments.
There’s also claims of Club América’s interest, but Olé insists Pedro Vite is not the priority target for the Mexican club.
Vite joined Pumas UNAM from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2025. Last season, he operated mainly a defensive and a central midfielder and occasionally in attacking positions.
The midfielder played 3,070 minutes from 40 matches across all competitions. With a contract until 2029, Transfermarkt value him at €6m.
