Elon Musk has promised to “make games great again” with the launch of his new AI studio.

Earlier this week, Dogecoin creator Billy Markus took to X to complain about video games going woke. “I don’t understand how game developers and game journalism got so ideologically captured. Gamers have always been trolls, anti-greedy corporations, anti-bs. [They] can tell when someone is an outsider poser.”

X owner Elon Musk then joined in, complaining that “too many game studios that are owned by massive corporations.“ The billionaire creator of SpaceX and Tesla then said his new start-up xAI would launch an AI game studio to “make games great again!”

Back in March, Xbox’s Kelly Lomardi wrote: “Raise your hand if you’re not a white man and you buy video games? No hate to white dudes, it’s just another day in the gaming industries where minorities have to fight to prove they exist.” Replying to a reshare of the post, Musk wrote: “Can they just make good games and skip the woke lecture?? WTF.”

Musk also shared footage from a speech he made earlier this year. “It’s really annoying when a video game gets interrupted by some [diversity, equity, and inclusion] woke bullshit,” he said. “Can you just leave the video games alone. You don’t want to do things that damage art.”

Last week, Musk wrote: “Having pronouns in a fantasy video game is utterly unacceptable,” in response to an early playtest of Avowed. “I wanted so badly to make him mad with my game. I can’t believe it actually happened,” the game’s art director Matt Hansen said on Bluesky. “It’s honestly deeply surreal to have the world’s richest, shittiest boy whine about something I am making. I am quite frankly giddy. I cannot think of a single person in the world I would rather irritate.”

Elon Musk has yet to announce any more details about his new AI game studio though.
