Year-round sports just got easier in Bideford thanks to new all-weather pitch
by Lewis Clarke · DevonLiveKingsley Devon has opened a brand-new all-weather sports pitch, the Grenville Pitch. This state-of-the-art facility approved for use by both FIFA and World Rugby, will provide students in Bideford with year-round access to sports and recreational activities, regardless of the weather.
The Grenville Pitch is scheduled to be ready for use from December 2024. This timely completion will ensure that major boys’ and girls’ sports can continue uninterrupted throughout the year. The Grenville Pitch will also facilitate the expansion of girls’ football and rugby programmes, under the leadership of Mr Ward, director of sport at Kingsley.
The new pitch will also serve as a valuable resource for the wider community. Romar Sports, the North Devon Development Centre, and Bideford Rugby Club will have year-round access to the facility for training and matches, benefiting over 400 children from across North Devon each week.
Headteacher, Mr Pavis said: "I am delighted that we have a new facility for all our students and also for our wider community. We believe that promoting wellness and wellbeing is essential for every student's overall development, and this new pitch will play a significant role in achieving that goal by providing enhanced opportunities for year-round sports and physical activity. With the staging of Women’s Rugby World Cup in England next year, this facility will support the legacy of that event in North Devon."
