Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella Can’t Wait To Play For Super Eagles Again
by Ernest Victor · Naija NewsBayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has expressed his strong desire to return to the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles.
Nathan Tella, 25, who joined the Bundesliga club after his time at Burnley, received his first call-up to the Super Eagles during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November 2023. This opportunity came as Nigeria faced off against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Tella made his international debut in a memorable match that ended in a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe. However, since that significant appearance, he has not been recalled to represent Nigeria in subsequent matches, which has fueled his determination to earn another chance.
In an interview with OmaSports TV, Nathan Tella shared his feelings about representing his country. Tella stated, “Of course, it’s an honour to represent your country. However, I understand that I need to maintain a high level of performance at my club to gain recognition for a spot in the national team.”
He emphasized his commitment to developing his skills and consistently improving his game to gain more ground in the national team.
“I believe it’s all about taking the right steps: continually getting better, improving day by day, and if I keep doing the right things, I remain hopeful that Nigeria will call me back to the national squad,” Tella said.
