Djokovic delighted his fans with a message in Chinese and English published on Instagram.
"I am very happy to announce that I'm coming back to Beijing after many years to play at the China Open. I'm so excited to be back and to perform in front of you all at the National Tennis Center, one of the nicest venues in tennis, a place where I have incredible memories and great successes throughout my career. I want to thank all the Chinese fans for their years long love and support," Novak Djokovic said.
Beijing is Djokovic's lucky town
Djokovic played six times in this ATP tournament and won the title each time. The Serbian won his first trophy in 2009 by defeating Marin Cilic, then successfully defended the title in 2010, when he defeated David Ferrer in the final.
He skipped the tournament in 2011, but returned in 2012 and defeated Joao-Wilfried Tsonga in the final. A year later, in the fight for the trophy, he was better than Rafael Nadal, next defeated Tomas Berdych, and in 2015, Nadal again.
Djokovic has not played this tournament since then, so his perfect record of 29 wins from as many matches is still intact. It is also a record on the ATP tour over the last 36 years.
Since 1990, no tennis player has achieved so many victories, nor won so many titles in the same ATP tournament, without experiencing a single defeat.
