Earlier this year, Murray joined a group of friends to raise more than £6,800 for MacMillan Cancer Support through a major charity cycle, reports Belfast Live.
Johnny and his companions completed a 106km circuit of Lough Ness in Scotland in honour of 'very close family members unfortunately no longer with us due to cancer'.
Johnny also represented St Colmcille's GAA club in Cardiff whilst living overseas and received their men's player of the year award in 2016.
A death notice on Funeral Times stated: "May Johnny's gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Clare and his cherished children Dara and Una, his father Michael, sister Michelle (Martin McClave), brother Martin (Anthony Murray).
"A dear uncle to all his nieces and nephews. A treasured son-in-law of Jim and Marie Martin and a much loved brother-in-law of Kieran Martin (Orla) and Laura (Daniel Mohan). Predeceased by his mother Angela. Sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, son, daughter, father, sister, brother, mother and father-in-law, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and large circle of family and friends."
Scores of tributes have been shared online, with one reading: "Absolutely heartbreaking. What a gentleman, who always had a smile and a chat for everyone."
