World Cup 2026: We don’t want to leave – Messi after defeating Egypt

Argentina trailed 2-0 until the 79th minute, when Messi’s cross found Romero, who headed home to give the South Americans hope.
Messi then scored the equaliser before Enzo Fernández netted a stoppage-time winner to seal a remarkable 3-2 victory and send Argentina into the quarter-finals.
Speaking to Olé after the match, Messi admitted Romero’s goal transformed the mood of the team.
“It’s a relief, a catharsis. We can’t end the FIFA World Cup today. We don’t want to leave. After Romero scored, hope was ignited in each of us,” he said.
“This team has always shown me love, and it is a source of pride to fight alongside them,” Messi added.
