Vegas Advisor: Name change coming for Las Vegas outlier

by · Star-Advertiser

Located on the far northwest side of town, Rampart Casino is getting a new name. As of Jan. 1, the casino will be the Resort at Summerlin, which was the original name when it opened in 1999, before changing to Regent Las Vegas in 2000. The name change coincides with the completion of a $75 million upgrade of the resort that includes renovated rooms and convention space, a new high-limit room, food hall and new Caesars sports book that will be open in time for the Super Bowl.

Half-point holidays: As it does every year during the holidays, South Point is running its “Pay Less with Your Points” promo, during which almost everything is half-price when you use club points. This includes all restaurants and bars, rooms, shows, bingo, bowling, spa and salon, movies and the gift shop. Drinks at all bars are $2 ($1 with points). The promo runs through Dec. 24.

DiscoShow closes: DiscoShow, the featured show at The Linq, will close on Jan. 3. The show from Spiegelworld, which also produces the long-running Absinthe at Caesars Palace, was a bit of a departure from the typical Vegas production, given that there were no seats, requiring the audience to stand throughout. Expect the next show to have seating.

Banana Ball: The Banana Ball exhibition baseball league will play three games at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, April 30-May 2. Think Harlem Globetrotters, only baseball.

Question: Will the Las Vegas sports books take bets on the World Cup soccer tournament next year?

Answer: The sports books have always booked the World Cup, as well as other soccer tournaments and leagues. Soccer doesn’t generate a lot of action, but the Vegas books are expecting interest to increase, due to the tournament being held in North America for the first time since 1994.
