Anne Hathaway Would Rather the Knicks Win Another Championship Than Win a Second Oscar

Jimmy Fallon made Anne Hathaway choose between another Oscar and another New York Knicks championship during “Best Thing Ever” on The Tonight Show on September 30. Without much hesitation, she picked the Knicks — and then described exactly what that choice did to her.
“I’m actually, like, the way my nervous system is reacting to that choice is really intense,” Hathaway said. She had joined Fallon to promote her new thriller Verity, but the conversation quickly turned to her beloved basketball team.
The night got even better when Fallon handed the lifelong Knicks fan a jersey signed by OG Anunoby. “Are you serious? Oh my god!” she said before pulling it on.
According to Variety, Hathaway kept fidgeting with the jersey while Fallon tried to steer the interview back on track. The team had sent gifts for her baby, too, including a card signed by Anunoby that read “All my best.”

Her affection for Anunoby traces back to a November 2024 game, when the player nearly collided with Hathaway and her son while chasing a loose ball into the stands. Afterward, she declared herself a fan — and she hasn’t looked back since.
Fallon also brought up a running joke that Hathaway had somehow helped turn the team’s fortunes around. In The Devil Wears Prada 2, released May 1, her character chats with Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns at a Hamptons party.
As for those fortunes: the Knicks had lost Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks on April 20, then rattled off a 13-game winning streak. Their next defeat didn’t come until June 9, in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
