Chris Brown received an 8-month prison term, suspended for 12 months, on October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court. The sentence followed his guilty plea to affray over his attack on music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at London’s Tape nightclub.

Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated bottle blows aimed at Diaw’s head as “plainly dangerous.” He said the attack could have left Diaw with worse injuries.

Addressing Brown’s career, Baumgartner told him: “Your fame, commercial success and professional standing do not entitle you to special treatment. The law applies equally to everyone.”

Claire Campbell of CPS London South, a senior prosecutor, had described the attack as “vicious and unprovoked” after the conviction.

Omololu Akinlolu, Brown’s vocal coach, received a prison term of 4 months, also suspended for 12 months.

Baumgartner said Akinlolu should receive a lighter sentence than Brown’s because he’d been unarmed and played a smaller part in the attack. The judge also weighed the circumstances that led to Akinlolu’s involvement.

Both men must also pay court costs.

The attack took place early on February 19, 2023, at Tape in Mayfair. In July, Brown and Akinlolu each admitted affray.

Brown had also faced charges of having an offensive weapon, assault and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. He denied those charges, which were later dropped.

Brown’s May 2025 arrest came when he returned to Britain for the first time since the attack. He was initially refused bail, and the case threatened his worldwide Breezy Bowl XX tour.

A promise to pay £5 million as security eventually secured his release, allowing the tour to go ahead.
