HBO has tapped Nicholas Hoult to play Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season of its upcoming Harry Potter television series. The casting news arrives ahead of the show’s initial premiere on HBO and Max.
The second season will adapt J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, introducing the vain and deceptively heroic Defense Against the Dark Arts professor originally portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 feature film. Hoult joins an ensemble cast that includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Production for Season 2 is set to begin this fall. Jon Brown joins series developer Francesca Gardiner as co-showrunner, with Mark Mylod directing and executive producing alongside Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman for Warner Bros. Television.
Season 1 of Harry Potter officially debuts on December 25 on HBO and Max.
