With two of India's medium-fast bowling all-rounders nursing injuries, the selectors have handed a maiden call-up to Mumbai's Suryansh Shedge. The 23-year-old will join the T20I squad for the much-anticipated two-match series in Ireland, which will be followed by a five-match T20I series in England in June and July.

Shedge, who has been a crucial part of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, earns the call-up after impressing for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Dambulla. Batting in the middle order, the 23-year-old scored 147 runs in five matches and also chipped in with the ball, bowling 23 overs across the tournament. He made valuable contributions when the team was under pressure, showcasing his ability to clear the ropes and deliver in challenging situations.

While Nitish Kumar Reddy was named initially as Hardik Pandya's replacement, the Hyderabad all-rounder has been ruled out due to an injury he suffered in a recently-concluded ODI series against Afghanistan.

"Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series," the BCCI stated.

WHO IS SURYANSH SHEDGE

Shedge will join Shreyas Iyer, who has replaced Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain, and will have the comfort of playing under his IPL skipper, with Iyer also leading Punjab Kings.

He was also one of the standout performers for Mumbai in their victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024-25, scoring 131 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order.

After making his IPL debut in 2025, Suryansh excelled in the lower middle-order role for Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings, scoring 158 runs in seven matches at an impressive strike rate of 175.55.
