Virender Sehwag is swapping the cricket pitch for the reality-show arena. The former India opener will make his streaming debut as the host of reality show Rise and Fall Season 2.

The makers unveiled the first glimpse of the upcoming season on Thursday, giving viewers a peek at Sehwag's new avatar. Known for his straight-talking wit and fearless approach to cricket, Sehwag appears to be bringing the same no-nonsense energy to a game built around power, money and shifting alliances.

The promo plays on the familiar idea that fortunes can change in an instant, with Sehwag drawing parallels between the unpredictable nature of cricket and the show's power game. The premise of Rise and Fall revolves around 15 celebrity contestants divided into two groups - the Rulers and the Workers.

While the Rulers live in the relative luxury of the penthouse, the Workers are stationed in the basement. The contestants can move between the two worlds as the game progresses, with their positions determined by decisions, alliances and strategy. Money and influence are central to the gameplay, making the power hierarchy anything but permanent.

Sehwag's role as host adds an interesting twist to the second season. Having spent years reading bowlers, situations and opponents on the cricket field, he will now be watching contestants navigate betrayals, alliances, rivalries and strategic moves.

Speaking about the show in a press release, Sehwag said cricket had taught him that "no match is won before the final ball", adding that Rise and Fall brings a similar unpredictability. He said he was particularly looking forward to seeing contestants take risks, form alliances and figure out when to attack and when to hold back.

The second season follows the debut season's focus on the contrast between those at the top and those at the bottom of the power structure. The format, originally created by UK production company Studio Lambert, is produced in India by Banijay Asia.

Rise and Fall Season 2 will stream for free on Prime Video and the MX Player Android app, which has been refreshed as MX Player by Prime Video. The new season is set to premiere soon.
