KKR vs LSG weather update: Another washout on the cards at Eden Gardens?

KKR vs LSG faces weather concerns after recent rain in Kolkata, but clearer skies are expected to improve chances of a full game at Eden Gardens as Rahane's side hunt their first win of IPL 2026.

In Short

  • KKR last match was abandoned due to persistent rain
  • Yellow alert for thunderstorms issued in Kolkata before match
  • Groundstaff worked extensively to prepare Eden Gardens pitch

After a frustrating washout in their previous outing, Kolkata Knight Riders return to the Eden Gardens hoping for uninterrupted action as they take on Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. However, with recent weather patterns in Kolkata, the big question remains: is another washout on the cards?

KKR’s last fixture against Punjab Kings was abandoned without a ball being bowled after persistent rain lashed the city. That result helped the Ajinkya Rahane-led side open their account with a point, but it also extended their wait for a first win this season. With early momentum missing, the team will be keen to finally get their campaign up and running.

The build-up to this clash has not been entirely smooth either. The city experienced intense showers and dark clouds earlier in the day, prompting a yellow alert for thunderstorms. On the eve of the match, groundstaff at the Eden Gardens were kept busy following incessant rain, working extensively to ensure the outfield and pitch were match-ready.

RAIN THREAT EASES FOR CLASH

Despite the earlier concerns, the outlook for the evening offers optimism. While there were spells of rain earlier in the day, forecasts suggest that conditions are expected to stabilise as the match approaches. The likelihood of precipitation reduces significantly later in the evening, improving the chances of a full contest. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high twenties in degrees Celsius, accompanied by moderate humidity. These conditions could also aid batting, with the surface expected to play true if there are no interruptions.

From a team perspective, KKR will be eager to make the most of improved conditions. There is a boost with Sunil Narine set to return to the lineup, adding balance with both bat and ball at the top of the order. His presence could prove vital as KKR look to stabilise both their batting and bowling units.

However, concerns remain around Varun Chakravarthy, who was seen training indoors with his fingers strapped. The spinner has also struggled for impact, going wicketless in his first two matches, and his availability remains uncertain.
With weather expected to hold up better than before, KKR will hope the focus shifts from rain interruptions to on-field performance, as they aim to secure their first win of the IPL 2026 season.
