“I am not understanding what they are asking actually,” Kohli said.
“I don’t know why are you asking me? Ask the overseas players. I am not an overseas player.”
He then turned the question back at the host, asking, “Am I an overseas player?” before bursting into laughter as the host replied in the negative.
The banter aside, Kohli has once again let his bat do the talking at the start of IPL 2026. Opening the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he has looked in complete control, continuing his remarkable consistency in the tournament.
HOW WAS VIRAT KOHLI'S IPL 2026 START?
Kohli began the season in emphatic fashion, playing a match-winning knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament opener. Chasing 202 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, he anchored the innings with an unbeaten 69 off 38 balls, striking five fours and five sixes.
His innings guided RCB to a record-breaking chase, as they hunted down the 200-plus target in just 15.4 overs, marking the fastest such chase in IPL history. Once again, Kohli showcased why he continues to be regarded as one of the finest chasers in the game.
The knock also saw him achieve multiple milestones. He surpassed Shoaib Malik to become the Asian cricketer with the most T20 runs and became the first player in IPL history to cross 4,000 runs in successful chases.
With his form and confidence on display early in the season, Kohli now looks set to chase yet another landmark, the 9,000-run mark in IPL history, further adding to his legacy in the league.
