IND vs SA: Gautam Gambhir arrives in Ranchi just 2 days before 1st ODI

by · India Today

India head coach Gautam Gambhir reached Ranchi just two days ahead of the team's first ODI against South Africa. After the conclusion of the Test series, India will now play against the Protea nation in a 3-match ODI series. The series will mark the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international cricket.

Gambhir arrived in Ranchi a day after the rest of the India players assembled in the city for the first ODI. Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma were already in the city before the Indian team's arrival and had one net session on Thursday, November 27.

Gautam Gambhir will be under pressure coming into the ODIs given the way the Test series panned out only a couple of days ago. The last time India played an ODI series, they lost 1-2 against Australia, having been outplayed in the first two matches of the series.

The third and the final ODI of that series saw Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to prime form as they guided India to a consolation win in Sydney. The Indian management will hope that the senior players put up a strong show against a confident Proteas team, who have just whitewashed the Indian side in the red-ball format.

The Indian team has a new-look bowling attack for the series, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna forming the pace trio of the series.
