KIIT celebrates World Volleyball Day 2026 with commitment to India’s Volleyball

Bhubaneswar: The International Centre of Excellence (ICoE) for Volleyball at KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated World Volleyball Day 2026 with great enthusiasm.

The celebration featured an exhibition match involving the Indian Under-18 Boys Volleyball Team, currently training at the ICoE, who will represent the country at the forthcoming Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) U-18 Championship in China. The match showcased the immense talent of India’s next generation of volleyball players and highlighted KIIT’s growing role as a premier high-performance training centre for the sport.

On the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT, KISS and KIMS, conveyed his warm greetings to the global volleyball fraternity and reflected on the remarkable progress made through the collaboration between KIIT-KISS and the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) over the past year.

He expressed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Fabio Azevedo, President of FIVB, for his visionary leadership and continued support in strengthening volleyball development in India. Prof. Samanta emphasised that the partnership has laid a strong foundation for transforming India into a recognised force in world volleyball.

Recalling one of the landmark initiatives undertaken through this collaboration, Prof.Samanta noted that volleyball equipment was distributed to nearly 7,000 locations across India with the objective of strengthening the grassroots ecosystem and making the sport more accessible to young players across the country.

Looking ahead, he announced that KIIT-KISS will continue to support the growth of volleyball by regularly organising selection trials, elite coaching camps, international training programmes, and world-class volleyball and beach volleyball championships at the International Centre of Excellence for Volleyball. These initiatives are expected to provide Indian athletes with greater exposure to international standards while creating a sustainable pathway for future champions.

The celebration concluded with renewed optimism and a collective resolve to work towards the long-term development of volleyball in India. Through its continued partnership with FIVB and its sustained investment in infrastructure, athlete development and international collaborations, KIIT Deemed to be University remains committed to nurturing sporting excellence and contributing significantly to the global volleyball movement.
