Bihar scripted a historic chapter in world cricket on Wednesday, recording the highest-ever team total in the history of List A cricket. During their opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Plate League at the JSCA Oval Ground, Bihar posted a monumental 574/6 in their allotted 50 overs against a struggling Arunachal Pradesh bowling attack. Vaibhav Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest to Hit List-A Century, Achieves Feat During Arunachal Pradesh vs Bihar VHT 2025-26 Match.

The performance obliterated the previous world record of 506/2, set by Tamil Nadu against the same opponents in 2022. Bihar’s innings was defined by three centuries, including a world-record-breaking knock from 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the fastest century by an Indian in List A history by captain Sakibul Gani.

A Record-Breaking Opening Assault

Opting to bat first, Bihar’s openers set a blistering pace from the outset. While Mangal Mahrour provided a steady start with 33 runs, the spotlight was firmly on teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The pair shared a 158-run opening stand in just 14.3 overs, effectively putting Arunachal Pradesh on the defensive within the first hour of play.

Suryavanshi’s aggression forced several bowling changes, but Arunachal’s attack found no respite on a flat Ranchi surface. The left-hander dismantled the pace and spin alike, striking at a rate of 226.19 and clearing the boundary with ease.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Historic Innings

At just 14 years and 272 days old, Suryavanshi became the youngest player in history to score a List A century. He reached the triple-figure mark in just 36 deliveries—the fourth-fastest century by an Indian in the format. Virat Kohli Becomes Second Indian Batter After Sachin Tendulkar To Score 16,000 List-A Runs, Achieves Feat During Andhra vs Delhi VHT 2025-26 Match.

Suryavanshi did not stop at a hundred, eventually smashing 190 runs off 84 balls, including 16 fours and 15 sixes. Along the way, he shattered AB de Villiers' long-standing world record for the fastest 150 in one-day cricket, reaching the milestone in just 54 balls, ten deliveries quicker than the South African legend.

Captain’s Blitz and Middle-Order Dominance

Following Suryavanshi’s dismissal in the 27th over, captain Sakibul Gani and wicketkeeper-batter Ayush Loharuka continued the carnage. Gani produced one of the most explosive finishes in domestic history, remaining unbeaten on 128 off just 40 balls.

During his stay, Gani reached his century in a mere 32 balls, officially surpassing both Anmolpreet Singh and his own teammate Suryavanshi to claim the record for the fastest List A century by an Indian.

Loharuka also played a significant role, contributing 116 off 56 balls, while Piyush Singh added a valuable 77 off 66. Collectively, the Bihar batters maintained a run rate of 11.48 per over throughout the innings.

Historical Significance

Bihar is now the first team in professional one-day cricket history to cross the 550-run mark. The 574-run total is not only a domestic milestone but a global record that surpasses totals from all major international and domestic List A competitions.

Top Five List A Team Totals

Team Score Opposition Competition
Bihar 574/6 Arunachal Pradesh Vijay Hazare Trophy
Tamil Nadu 506/2 Arunachal Pradesh Vijay Hazare Trophy
England 498/4 Netherlands ODI
Surrey 496/4 Gloucestershire One-Day Cup
England 481/6 Australia ODI

The match highlights the ongoing gap in competitive balance within the domestic Plate League, as Arunachal Pradesh bowlers struggled to contain Bihar's hitters. Mibom Mosu conceded 116 runs in his nine overs, while most other bowlers surrendered runs at an average of over 10 per over.

Bihar’s record-breaking start to the 2025-26 season firmly establishes them as the team to beat in the Plate group as they seek promotion to the Elite tiers.
