Four strikers Nottingham Forest could sign as January transfer priority identified

by · NottinghamshireLive

Nottingham Forest could have a relatively quiet transfer window on the cards as January looms just around the corner.

The Reds do not need to do too much work, having already put the basis of a good squad in place with deals done in the summer. However, up front is an obvious area in need of strengthening as Nuno Espirito Santo's aim to continue competing at the top end of the Premier League table.

Forest were thwarted in their attempts to bring in a striker in the summer. And that has left head coach Nuno with Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi as his out-and-out forward options.

Wood has been in fine form in front of goal but Awoniyi is still yet to really get going this term. With that in mind, adding another forward in the new year would certainly bolster Nuno’s options.

Forest have already been linked with a number of attackers as the new year approaches. Below, we take a look at some of the strikers said to be on the club’s radar.

Yuri Alberto

Reports from Brazil have linked the Reds with a £19 million January bid for the Corinthians man. The 23-year-old has been open about his wish to move to the Premier League.

West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Brentford have also been credited with an interest. And there has been talk of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton reviving their interest from earlier in the year.

Conflicting messages have emerged over whether Corinthians would be willing to do a deal. Some reports have said the Brazilian outfit would be “open” to talks, but club chief Augusto Melo has been quoted saying Alberto is not for sale.

Igor Jesus

The South American market has been utilised well by Forest in recent windows, and 23-year-old Jesus is another name said to have caught their eye. However, the Botafogo forward has no shortage of admirers.

It was previously reported that the Reds had stepped up their interest by “making checks” on him, while Newcastle were said to have done the same. Arsenal, Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United and Fulham have also reportedly been eyeing the Brazilian up.

It seems it would take a significant sum to prise him away. A £30 million price tag has been mooted.

Mathys Tel

The Bayern Munich teenager’s versatility no doubt makes him an attractive proposition for a number of clubs as he is capable of operating as a winger, attacking midfielder or centre forward. He has tough competition for a place in the starting XI - including from the likes of England captain Harry Kane - and that has led to suggestions a January loan move could be on the cards.

Forest were said to have made “initial contact” with regards to snapping up the 19-year-old. However, reports from Germany have since claimed he had turned down the chance of linking up with Nuno’s side as “only a bigger club” would tempt him away.

He is said to be on the radar of other Premier League teams. Werder Bremen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and VfB Stuttgart have also been credited with interest in him.

Luca Koleosho

Forest were linked with the Burnley attacker earlier this season and were said to have sent representatives to watch him in action. Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton and Crystal Palace were also identified as potential suitors for the 20-year-old.

Capable of playing as a left winger or a forward, Koleosho signed for the Clarets from Espanyol in July 2023 for a reported £2.6 million fee. He has been racking up game time in the Championship since then.
